Are Cottonwood and Willow trees illegal in the City of Reno?
Not when planted on private property. Cottonwoods and Willows are not on the approved street tree list for planting along city street rights-of-way because these species have brittle wood and invasive root systems. Existing Cottonwoods and Willows along street rights-of-ways are only removed when they pose safety concerns.
