I do not think Chinese cultural and linguistic differences are a major hindrance to China becoming a force. In fact, most of the factories in China nowadays are JV partnerships or foreign investments with local factory managers with many success stories to report. Chinese diamond manufacturing and jewellery manufacturing has developed critical mass and associated capabilities in a very short period in the recent past. I would suggest other possible hindrances to China becoming a force – a lack of historical experience and globally-accepted practices, rules and regulations. The fragmented nature of China’s diamond manufacturing and jewellery industry is also a possible hindrance that should change over time as more large-scale players are established in the market.
