Are Dean guitars good guitars?
Personally the only models I’ve looked at are the ones that they market towards the “we love Dimebag and worship his memory” crowd. Since Dimebag Darrell (RIP) played Dean, they’ve apparently decided that they can pimp themselves out as something special. In my opinion, the guitars that they do so with are rather low quality, right around BC Rich in terms of sound, quality of hardware, etc. This particular guitar I’d be interested in playing – particularly seeing as how it has a mahogany body. It won’t be light, but it should sound pretty decent, I think. Personally, I would say play before you buy, if you can… but I wouldn’t automatically turn my nose up at it, like I would with some of Dean’s lower price point guitars. Something important to remember – factory strings, setup, and pickups tend to suck. I would strongly recommend getting the guitar new strings and a proper setup, either from a guitar tech or you, if you know how to do it (google, youtube “how to setup guitar”). I wou
