Are doctors motivated by high pay or healing patients?
I have not always had the most ideal relationship with certain doctors. There are some I have found to be arrogant and insensitive. These individuals have given the impression that they see themselves as having a status and authority very close to God – if indeed they even acknowledge the reality of a divine Power. Some have an absolutely deplorable bedside manner and ought to be ashamed of themselves regarding the way they speak to patients and their families. Most of these experiences have been in relation to our little girl, who was born with profound brain damage a decade ago and fought with all her might to survive and stay with us as long as she did. This stoic little battler lived a meaningful and miraculous life for just nine years and nine months – but there were doctors who I have no doubt would have denied her even that, if they had not been bound by the Hippocratic Oath and the framework in which they function in our society.
