Are family finances considered when awarding scholarships?

Does my college-enrolled parent count as a family member in college? No. Federal regulations no longer allow parents of students to be considered as part of the number of family members in college when calculating that student’s financial aid. The Financial Aid Office will reduce the number of family members in college if you include a parent in this number. A reduction in the number of family members in college also may significantly reduce your financial aid eligibility.

How do I apply for a scholarship? Oakland does not have a separate scholarship application. Submitted your completed admissions application by the appropriate date will ensure you are considered for scholarships. For incoming freshmen, the deadline date is Dec. 1 for the next fall semester.
