Are fears of rising sea levels from global warming overstated?
If you have been listening to Al Gore, then the predictions are, indeed, overstated. He has been going around saying that sea level is going to rise 20 feet in the next 5 – 10 years. Even the IPCC is not predicting that much of a rise. They are only predicting 7 to 23 INCHES by 2100. So, it is not even a tenth of his prediction over 9 to 18 times the amount of time. It is also questionable that there will even be that much of a sea level rise.
Fears are almost always overstated. As for global warming, or as they like to call it now that the initial predictions are not panning out, climate change, may be overstated. It is a difficult subject as so much of the information has been filtered through the various political agendas, leaving conclusions far more subjective than objective.

The projections in the article are probably arithmetic, but the progression of sea level rise is logarithmic. It’s an important distinction that many fail to grasp because the sea level isn’t going to rise by a few inches a year, it’s going to double every few years with the time frame for doubling shortening every time. This also makes no allowance for a catastrophic breaking point where things suddenly happen much faster.
