Are Fender MIM Strats the same thing as the Squier Standard Strat?

As no one else has answered this, I’ll have a go. I assume that a MIM Strat is the Mexican made version of the American Strat, and if this is so, it ought to be a far superior instrument to the Squier, which are made in the Far East. It will also cost considerably more. I’ve never had a true Fender, but I have had a Squier Tele (loved it) and currently have a Squier Jazz bass which was a great budget buy.
