Are former military installations that have been closed and subsequently turned over to local and/or state governments or non-profit organizations eligible for funding under the FY03 guidelines?
A. Generally, former military installations that are no longer owned or under the custody of the U.S. government, including properties that have been closed and subsequently turned over to governments or nonprofit organization may be eligible for brownfields funding. For example, the following types of facilities may be eligible for brownfields funding: 1. Privately-owned, Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) 2. Privately-owned, Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) properties. 3. Other former federal properties that have been disposed of by the U.S. government. Facilities owned by, or under the custody or control of the federal government are not eligible for brownfields funding. Applicants should contact their Regional Brownfields coordinator for additional information.
