Skip the puffs – you might as well feed your kid straight junk food since they are so over processed. Cheerios are great, whole crackers, bread, toast, bagels, English muffins and waffles are also good. Just about anything wheat or flour based goes to mush when in the mouth and makes good self feeding foods. French fries work great, you can also make sweet potatoes and various squash into oven fries. Soft fruits and veggies are great too. Basically if you can smush it with your fingers, baby will have no problems chewing it. Arrowroot cookies/animal crackers are good too (although careful with the animal crackers, my son also likes to put the whole thing in his mouth and then gags on them). Don’t freak if your little one does occasionally gag, it’s what teaches them not to put too much in their mouth and to remember to chew things before trying to swallow.
