Are glass sinks safe?
Yes, they are generally safe. Tempered glass is most often used in bathrooms. During the glass-making process, the glass is strained to strengthen it. The resulting glass is resistant to chips, scratches, and breakage. Should it break, it may crack slightly, but it won’t usually shatter. Should it that happen, however, the pieces won’t be sharp enough to cut you. Sinks made from art glass are not tempered, but are thicker than tempered glass, which makes them less likely to crack extensively if something heavy is dropped in them. If they do shatter, the pieces will be sharp, so wear shoes to clean up the mess. In both cases, avoid chipping the rim because this places additional strain on the bowl and could cause it to break.
