Are heartworm prevention medications not effective in controlling heartworm infection and heartworm disease?
Heartworm prevention medications are quite effective at controlling both heartworm infection and heartworm disease. However, no medication can boast 100% effectiveness. In addition, there may be concerns about compliancy. Dog owners may forget to give the heartworm prevention or may on occasion give the heartworm prevention medication a few days late. When this happens, many pet owners do not even realize it. After all, we all lead busy lives and sometimes remembering to give the dog his medication may not be an immediate priority when there are other things going on in our lives.
