Are helmets required for quad bikes/ATVs?
Yes for quads, no for sit-on ATVs such as mules. Helmets must be worn at all times (so not just on public roads). Suitable eye protection must be provided, and if the quad is being used for transporting loads, gloves and boots must be provided as well, along with a personal first aid kit. See the HSE leaflet AFAG701 for more details. And don’t forget the non-snagging outer clothing.
