Are metal fillings “toxic”?

0

The FDA still approves the use of amalgam or metal fillings. These filling do contain small amounts of mercury which is deemed inert by the chemistry used to amalgamate the alloy. However, due to the cosmetic concerns, not the health concerns, we rarely use metal fillings and rather prefer the cosmetic alternative of composite or porcelain. We do not advocate the removal of metal fillings for health reasons, however they can be replaced with tooth colored restorations at the patient’s request.
