Are Mustard Plasters Accepted As Medical Treatment For Back Muscle Pain?
They certainly used to be, but I’ve not heard of this treatment for many years. I mean I know it still exists, but I haven’t heard it recommended by a doctor in many years. I think the downside of these things is the potential for burning. Hot wet heat is often recommended. When I was a licensed massage therapist working for a physical therapist I had my patients use heat and ice alternately. Hot wet heat (towels) for 5 min., ice for 3 minutes, heat for 5, ice for 3 and ending with heat for 5, and a massage for about 5 minutes. The advantage as I saw it was that the whole process took about 1/2 hour and if it had not worked you could discard it. Also no investment money wise. I’d say about 95 percent of my patients found great relief with this method.
