Are paramedics trained to recognise symptoms and direct people to specialist centres or the right place?
Triage is a key skill for all emergency staff and paramedics have a great knowledge of the appropriate place to take patients. Clearly the information available to paramedics is limited and the service must always take an approach that delivers the safest possible outcome for patients. This will generally mean “over-triage” *(that is more patients taken to specialist centres than are subsequently shown to have needed specialist care).
