As far as regular members go, it is against the Askville rules to advertise your own product. I have seen it done a couple of times – you can report it to Askville management and some kind of administrative action will be taken. Once, I saw someone advertise a book they had written in an answer. The hilarious thing was that the book was NOT about the question topic. This answerer was in the process of writing a book on the question topic, and gave information on projected release date, etc.! I was new to Askville and did not report him but gave him a low rating (he did answer the question to some degree in addition to advertising his books) and sent him a PM about it. He agreed that it was inappropriate and wouldn’t do that sort of thing again, and we left it at that. If you see regular Askvillers referencing products, then you need to evaluate whether or not it is abuse.
