Are poinsettia plants poisonous?
While poinsettias may cause some gastrointestinal irritation and upset, they are not generally considered to be a deadly plant for pets which are otherwise healthy. Symptoms expected with ingestion of the poinsettia plant, according to the ASPCA Poison Control Center, include: • drooling • vomiting • diarrhea These symptoms are usually mild to moderate and ingestion of any part of the poinsettia plant rarely causes death. The American Veterinary Medical Association appears to agree with the ASPCA’s assessment of poinsettia toxicity and does not list the plant on its poisonous plant list.
