We aim to further assess the effect of recent PPI use on the risk of developing CAP in a large, population-based cohort.Methods: We conducted a nested case-control study in the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) (1987–2003). The GPRD is a computerized medical record system from the United Kingdom containing complete, prospectively-collected prescription data. The study cohort included all patients aged 18 years and with 6 months of pneumonia free follow-up in the GPRD. Cases included all patients with an incident CAP diagnosis.
