Radar detectors are legal in California, but it is illegal to mount anything to your windshield. Your options are to mount the radar detector somewhere else inside your car (your visor is a great place), or use a hidden, remote-mounted radar detector in your front grill or on your ski rack. Do NOT expect your radar detector to protect you from police laser! The best radar detectors also detect laser, but the laser only has to hit your vehicle for 0.2 seconds to read your speed; not nearly enough time to adjust if your laser alarm alerts. If you are concerned about police laser as well as radar, you’ll need a laser jammer. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are also legal in nearly every state, but NOT California.
