Are research grants different from contracts?
Yes. Research contracts are agreements that provide research services under specifically negotiated conditions in exchange for the full reasonable identifiable costs, including indirect costs or overhead. For University purposes, contracts include letters of agreement signed by both parties, purchase orders, and form contracts. Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) are contracts and require University signatures. Ryerson University is the Contractor on all contracts. The researcher/faculty member is “assigned” by the University to undertake the research. In order for the contract to be binding, the contract must be signed in accordance with the University’s Signing Policy. The Office of Research Services reviews and processes all research contracts on behalf of the University. ORS works closely with the faculty member, the Department Chair and the Dean to ensure that all the terms and conditions of the contract can be met.
