Royal pythons and ball pythons are the same thing. They were named royal pythons by the English crown I believe because their pattern was more exquisite than other snakes, fit for the royal crown. Their much more common name is Ball python as their extreme ability to ball themselves up into a ball when frightened. This is most common when the animal is unfamiliar or nervous about human contact. I believe there is a bull snake, which is not a python and live on complete opposite sides of the world.
