Insects are a kind of arthropod. Arachnids are a different kind of arthropod, and spiders are a kind or arachnid. Other arachnids include ticks, mites, scorpions, daddy-longlegs, etc. None of these are insects. Other kinds of arthropods, include crustacheans (which include shrimp, crabs, barnacles, pillbugs, etc.) and myriapods (centipedes, millipedes, and a few similar creatures).
