Are spiders really poison?

No spiders are poisonous; you could eat one without coming to any harm. However, virtually all spiders are venomous; if you are bitten by one you could be harmed (so if you swallow one, don’t let it bite your tongue!). Most spiders have venom which is pretty harmless to humans, other seem unable to penetrate human skin, but there are some well-known really dangerous spiders. You don’t say where you live. I live in England and frequently get pleas for help regarding an orange coloured spider found in houses. It is generally a species of Dysdera, a rather scary looking spider which can bite but is not at all dangerous.
