Merling is visible at birth. Ticking shows up later. I have seen chihuahuas with ticking look very white or simply roan, but end up with lots of Dalmatian like spots. I have had a few of these. See my avitar? She looks roan with a few spots on her feet in that picture at three months. By a year old, she had both brown and black spots all over her along with the roaning she was born with. I don’t know if you can blow it up to see her legs or not. But in the pic, she has spots starting on her front legs and side. At birth, she was white and brown piebald or roan. Her face later covered with spots too. That is ticking not merleing. Merling is different, it shows up at birth.
