Are STYROFOAM Brand Extruded Polystyrene insulations suitable for acoustical control or sound absorption purposes?

STYROFOAM Brand Insulation does not perform well either at absorbing sound or at blocking sound transmission as compared to a variety of materials which have been designed and/or are sold with that purpose in mind. STYROFOAM Brand Insulation is an ineffective sound deadening material. In general, soft, porous materials are good sound absorbers: thick carpeting, heavy draperies, acoustical tile ceilings, etc. And dense materials are good blockers of air-borne sound: poured concrete, concrete block, brick, multiple layers of drywall, etc.
