Are sugar crystals a mechanical mixture, solution, compound, or element…why?

If I remember right from chemistry class, sugar is a compound. I know sugar isn’t an element. If it was, it would be on the table of elements. It’s not a solution either because solutions mean that they’re dissolved in liquid such as water. Mechanical mixture means that it’s two or more elements combined together that don’t share chemical bonds. A compound on the other hand are two or more elements combined together which do share chemical bonds. Also, sugar comes from sugarcane which is a plant. This is all off the top of my head but I’m really sure it’s a compound. Let me know if I’m right or not.
