Are test tube babies still being born?
Sure. People don’t use that term any longer, though. “In vitro fertilization” (i.e. in glass – new way of saying test tube?) is used now. I know a lot of people who’ve used this method when they’ve not been able to conceive in the usual way. Egg cell(s) and sperm cells are joined outside the body, in a laboratory, and then fertilized ova are implanted, hopefully to develop the same way any fertilized ovum develops. For some, it works right away. For others, it’s a long, expensive, emotionally taxing process involving multiple attempts and a lot of disappointments and even heartbreak. It’s particularly tough for the woman, whose body goes through a LOT of hormonal changes in the process.
