Are the devil, Hades and Dionysus similar to each other but just from different religions?
I’ve always felt the difference between these Greek gods and the Christian Devil is that there isn’t a sense of evil or sin associated with the Greek gods. Yes, Hades judges and takes care of souls, but he is viewed more as a steward or a king with a duty. Dionysus was considered to be a wild god with the ancient equivalent of sex, drugs, and rock and roll — but the Greeks did not see it as evil. The Greeks viewed their gods in a practical way. They struck bargains, offered bribes, and made contracts with them. They could relate to them as people who happened to be much more powerful than they. The Christian Devil seems to be made up more of a motive than a nature. Everything the devil does is based on wanting to drive a wedge between humans and God. The loss of God’s grace would not only hurt humans, but God as well. All the plans and schemes and tricks are for this purpose. The Devil has an awareness that what he does is wrong, while the Greek gods do not. They are in the moment at
