Are the Heated Door Mats dangerous?
No. The Heated Door Mats have been tested and approved to meet the requirements of UL standard 499 and carries the mark of the TUV – a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL). But specifically, the mats have two safety mechanisms built into them. First, the mats have a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) built into the plug. This GFCI will instantaneously shut off all power to the mat if it detects a current leakage of more than 6 mA. Therefore, should there ever be a cut in the mat that could potentially cause harm, the GFCI will immediately detect it and shut off all power to the mat. Secondly, the mats have a ground shield between the heating element and the carpet. Should there be any tear in the mat that could potentially cause harm, and for some reason the GFCI doesn’t catch it, all current will leave the mat through the ground shield.
