Are the lymph nodes located in the upper outer quadrant where most breast tumors occur?
About half of breast cancers are in the upper outer quadrant. The reason for this is due to the fact that most breast tissue is located in this quadrant. The breast quadrants are not of equal size, because the nipple is not in the true center of the breast and because a significant amount of breast tissue, called the “axillary tail” extends toward the underarm. The number of breast cancers in the upper outer quadrant is proportional to the amount of tissue in that area. There is no evidence to suggest that location of cancers within the breast is related to antiperspirant use or underarm shaving. Are men less likely to get breast cancer because antiperspirant gets caught in the underarm hair and is not absorbed by their skin? Men are significantly less likely than women to develop breast cancer. This is because men have much less breast tissue than women. Women have about 100 times more breast tissue than men do and are about 100 times more likely to develop breast cancer. Hormonal fac
