Are the operators of cabinet x-ray systems required to wear a “radiation badge”?

Personnel monitoring equipment (e.g. film badges, pocket dosimeters, film rings, etc.) is not required by U.K. [HSE] or U.S. Federal regulation for operators of cabinet x-ray systems. It is possible that some U.S. state regulations or the other regulatory or standard-setting bodies or policies of the operators’ employer may require use of personnel monitoring equipment. In both the UK and the U.S., the IRR99 and Federal limits on cabinet x-ray system emissions ensures the maximum possible exposure from cabinet x-ray systems in the workplace will always fall below the minimum threshold where personnel monitoring might be required. In the UK the dose limitation is defined in IRR99 Part II section 11 – http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1999/19993232.htm The OSHA regulations are based on the amount of radiation that a worker can receive in a specific area from all radiation sources. For more information, please see the OSHA regulations found in Title 29 CFR 1910.1096(d) Precautionary procedures
