Are the school holidays a good time to get a Golden Retriever puppy?
This is the best idea. That is what we did. Last summer, we got our puppy. Because I go to private school, my holidays are considerably long (8-10 weeks). However, it meant I had to give up my whole summer. I was up at 5.00am every morning and going into the garden every hour for toilet breaks. I didn’t leave my house, which meant I hardly had time for friends, though a lot of the time my sister stayed at home or my mum, so I did see friends at least once a week. I gradually got her used to being left alone, with my other dog. It started off with just being 20 minutes, then it increased to two hours. When she was 10 weeks, we were off out socialising and beginning puppy classes. So when I did get out during the summer, it was to train my dog and introduce her to the wide world. It’s a shock for any dog when their owners go back to work after the long summer, but they soon get themselves into a routine.
