Are the Yankees going to re-sign Johnny Damon or will Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner play?

That was part of the logic in making the Granderson trade, which allows the Yankees to take more of a hard-line stance in negotiations with Scott Boras concerning Damon. Multiple reports have indicated that Boras is trying to get Damon a three- or four-year deal, and he certainly should see if one is out there. But it won’t be coming from the Yankees, who seem to be drawing the line at a two-year deal and are hesitant to pay Damon the $13 million annually he made this year. A lot can change between now and April 4, but If the season started today, Cabrera would be the Yankees’ starting left fielder and Gardner would be a spare piece off the bench.
