Are there a lot of health food stores and restaurants and little businesses?
Yes – we have the normal “chain” alternative stores – Whole Foods, Sunflower Markets, Wild Oats… but we also have a pretty good selection of locally-owned food stores that carry organic produce and fair-trade fruit, especially in the more liberal neighborhoods like Sugarhouse and the Avenues. As for health-conscious – I’ve found a high number of 5K and 10K runs all summer, and you are literally a 10-minute drive to hiking trails and snowboarding in the mountains. My only complaint is that it’s too snowy/cold to run outdoors all winter (at least for me, but I’m a wuss). But yes, in general, SLC is a very outdoorsy- and health-conscious city.
