Are there additional proton therapy centers that will be opening soon?
Yes. There are two new proton therapy centers opening in 2009. In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the ProCure Proton Therapy Center opened July 8, 2009. In Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania Health System is building Roberts Proton Therapy Center, scheduled to open in the fall. In Chicago, ProCure, in affiliation with Central DuPage Hospital and Radiation Oncology Consultants, is building a proton therapy center that is scheduled to open in early 2011. A number of other hospitals and academic institutions have announced plans for proton therapy centers.
