A baby crying for no obvious reason is very possibly just colicky, as other answers have already suggested. But do make sure, check him/her over. The reason there is so little known about colic is that there do not seem to be any lasting ill effects once the baby grows out of it–usually by about 6 months. So there is not much reason to subject these babies to a lot of poking, prodding, and testing–it would likely do more harm than good. So you just comfort the baby best you can and endure it with him/her. It will seem like decades, but it really is only a few months. There is some speculation that it’s a digestive distress, maybe some cramps, or maybe some babies are just having a hard time getting used to the normal feel of their tummy doing its business.
