Are there any herbs that should NOT go into the compost?Mike D, from Central Ne asks: Are there any herbs that shouldn’t be composted? Answer: Believe it or not Mike, there are herbs that are better off left out of the compost pile. It is not a particular herb, but an herb symptom that you want to avoid. Do not add your herbs to the compost if they are: • Infested with insect eggs – Unless you are certain that your compost will heat to the proper temperature, many eggs will survive and continue to infect your garden when you use the composted material. • Dead because of disease – Have you suffered plant loss due to disease of some kind? These plants are better disposed of in a bag and the traditional garbage. • Particularly woody stems – More for your own convenience, woody stemmed herbs (older rosemary and thyme for instance) will take a long time to break down, leaving you to pick out the whole stem the following year. No damage, just annoying. If you are like me, and dislike throwin
