Are there any restrictions on the reflectivity of roofing material used on a House?

No. The House Code, Residential Design – Small Lot Code and the Residential Design – Low Density, Character and Low-medium Density Code do not place any restrictions on the colour or surface treatment of roofing material to control reflectivity. Zincalume or light coloured roofing material is acceptable under these codes. The Residential Design – Character Code only requires the use of traditional roofing materials and does not limit either colours or reflectivity. Roof reflectivity is only a consideration where specifically stated in the plan, such as in the Mt Coot-tha Local Plan where it is controlled to reduce the visual prominence of houses in sensitive viewsheds.
