Are There Any Risk Factors Responsible for CAD – (Coronary Artery Disease)?
Yes, there are several factors which increase the process of atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries, and in a patient more than 1-2 factors may be operating at the same time. Awareness of all such factors is important so that the CAD could be prevented right from the beginning. Other equally important factors are a positive family history of CAD, sedentary habits, lack of regular exercise, adverse/stressful conditions at home and/or at work, and the personality /behaviour of a person concerned. There are certain personality /behaviour characteristics called coronary prone personality /behaviour (CPP /CPB) responsible for CAD. This point will be taken up later under primary prevention of CAD. Although as age advances, some hardening of coronary arteries does occur, yet the above factors hasten the occurrence of atherosclerosis, leading to a premature death.
