Are there any rules of etiquette regarding buddha statues?
The etiquette is purely cultural, and depends on the nationality and sympathies of whoever is around. The Buddha himself was strongly against statues of himself, and they did not become popular until after the impact of Western (Greek) cultures. But basically, to not cover it, to not touch the head part, and to have it as the highest centrepiece of any display. Most cultures consider it disrerspectful to place one on the floor. Mainly it is common sense.
