Bast thing to do is try memorizing the ions (nitrate, nitrite, sulfate, sulfite, carbonate, phisphate, oxalate, bicarbonate, cyanide, thiocyanide and permanganate). Try these first and learn to write fromulas for coumpounds of the iosn with Group 1 metals (+1 sodium etc, along with ammonmium NH4+), group 2 metals, aluminum .
