Speaking for the Windows environment, both Microsoft Word and Corel WordPerfect can do this. A caveat for users of old software: WordPerfect 5 used a weak encryption that was quickly hacked and tools were made available publicly to ‘crack’ WP5 documents. Avoid it like the plague if you want security and you are still using or have access to this older product. I really cannot comment on the Windows versions of WordPerfect, as I switched to Word at about that time. This was not because of the product, simply that my corporate environment changed and with it the word processor (I use the same one at home as at work for simplicity). As for Word, once you are ready to save the document, go to the menu and select ‘Tools / Options / Security’. Provide a “Password to open” in the field provided. Click on “Advanced”. Select your choice of encryption algorithm. There are several, so simply pick one of them and ignore the ones with “weak” in the name. “Enhanced” and “strong” usually indicate sup
