There are three categories when it comes to discoloration of our teeth. The extrinsic discoloration occurs when we drink beverages like coffee and soda. This also happens when we eat food that stains the enamel or outer layer of the tooth. Intrinsic discoloration, on the other hand, causes the dentin or the inner structure of the tooth to darken or yellowish in color. This is due to fluoride exposure during childhood. There is also what we call age-related discoloration, a combination of the factors that make up intrinsic and extrinsic discoloration of teeth. Ask your Arlington dentist for more details.
