ARE THERE INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PEDESTRIAN SKILLS?
The study provided clear evidence that children’s development of pedestrian skills is highly variable. While there was overall development of skill and performance on the pedestrian tasks as the children grew older, there was considerable overlap in the performance level of the three age groups and considerable individual differences within age groups. About 10 of the youngest Reception age children (i.e. about 17% of the sample of 60 such children) demonstrated pedestrian skills above the average for the whole sample.
