Are there laptops powerful enough to play games like Halo 1/2 and CoD 4?
Absolutely! To be honest, a decent notebook from 2007 in the desktop-replacement class (AKA “gaming laptop”) could run the games you mentioned. A modern desktop-replacement class notebook in the $1,700-$2,000 price range will have a crazy fast Core i7 processor, multiple hard drive bays (usually 2 or 3 and sometimes even 4), TWO, yes TWO ATI mobility Radeon hd 5870 GPU’s thanks to the Crossfire capabilities. That GPU is currently the best mobile Graphics chipset there is… WHICH WOULD EASILY RUN BATTLESTATIONS PACIFIC…….. If you spent about $300 more you could get a blazing fast solid state drive and literally run all three of those games you simultaneously. So, yes your new laptop would have incredibly high performance. A few companies that make great desktop-replacement notebooks MSI, Asus, Fujitsu… Alienware has good machines but they are a bit over priced.
