Are there novice to intermediate hiking trails there?
Linda Larson Karen’s Answer: You bet, Linda. The Bright Angel and the South Kaibab Trails go from the South Rim down to Bright Angel Campground and Phantom Ranch; the North Kaibab trail goes up the North Rim. These trails are practically highways, suitable for mule traffic and tourists wearing the most ridiculous footwear imaginable (although I recommend sturdy shoes or boots). Canyon rangers recommend that first-time visitors get their first taste of the Canyon on one of these so-called corridor trails. On your return visit (and I’m betting you’ll want to return) you can graduate to some of the more remote trails, which require map and compass skills, a little bit of rock scrambling, and heavier duty footwear.
