Are there plans for XNA Game Studio Express to support the creation of 3D based titles?
Dave Mitchell: As surprising as it may seem, XNA Game Studio Express is actually a simpler 3D game development environment, than it is for 2D. The 2D tools and games are built on top of our 3D framework to provide all the benefits of 2D and 3D without the drawbacks. XNA Game Studio Express itself is a tool built on top of the XNA Framework which is the lower level set of gaming-specific, cross-platform APIs on Windows and Xbox 360. Interested 3rd parties and game authoring tools are encouraged to contact us at xna@microsoft.com if they are interested in building their offering on top of our XNA platform.
