Are there risk factors for LSD use among young women?
A large cross-sectional survey was done to identify risk factors for LSD use in 2003 among adolescent and young adult women aged 14 to 26. The study compared LSD users with marijuana users as controls. Both groups were identified as high sexual risk takers and reported being drunk at least 10 times during the past year and regularly smoking at least half a pack of cigarettes. LSD users as compared to nonusers were more likely to be young (17 years old or younger) and reported more history of physical abuse. The study shows that the female LSD users may have a distinct profile than the nonusers and such differences, when appropriately addressed by clinicians, would result in better treatment outcomes.
