Are water dogs needed for hunting waterfowl on Clear Lake Farm?
Dogs are almost essential when hunting over water, i.e., from pit blinds along the lake shore with the wind blowing out over the lake from the North-NW (most common), or from blinds or even muskrat houses in the sloughs and other wetlands. These sloughs and wetlands are considerable bodies of water, and the best waterfowling is in the foulest weather. Dogs are particularly useful for fowl-weather hunting from lakeshore-pits; a small rowboat is sometimes used to retrieve birds the wind has blown too far out.
