Are “whistleblowers” unsung heroes or trouble making snitches?

Whistle-blowing, if we assume that they are blowing the whistle about a crime someone has committed, are heroes, but only because we live in a society childish enough to label them ‘whistle-blowers’ instead of ‘responsible citizen’… In an ideal society it would be entirely normal and unremarkable for someone to tell the truth about crimes committed (well, in an ‘ideal’ society there wouldn’t be crimes to begin with, but you get my drift ; ) If you do something wrong, you deserve to be punished… Surrounding yourself with people who will lie to protect you is simply corrupt behaviour. People who lie to protect criminals are also criminal, at least morally. Pff… Frankly, anyone who considers a snitch to be bad (or uses the term derisively) has either a childish, selfish, sociopathic, or criminal mind… Certainly an alarmingly naive one.
